Bangladeshi youths have to take advantage of the connected age to realize their innovations for social goods, Global Youth Parliament (GYP) President Diwakar Aryal said.
GYP is a non-partisan, not-for-profit, youth-run organization established back in 2011 in Nepal.
Talking to Daily Sun, the youth organizer Diwakar shed lights into different areas of empowerment of new generations including – education, entrepreneurship and skill development.
“Our aim is to provide necessary skills and opportunities to the youth across the globe in order to expand their knowledge of democratic parliamentary procedure while fostering good citizenship, entrepreneurship development through networking where young members of GYP forge lasting relationships based on cooperative learning and mutual respect. Diwaker explained while talking to the Daily Sun during his Dhaka trip.
Diwakar founded Global Youth Parliament from Nepal, later he was appointed as an advisor in Arizona State University, USA for two years (2020).
The organization hosted the South Asian Youth Conference in Dhaka recently aiming to increase youth engagement for attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Daily Sun was the media partner of the international event.
“The sessions inspired youths to debate, discuss and prepare resolutions themselves. GYP facilitates these sessions working with the young people to increase their awareness on issues of global importance for instance climate change, democratic exercises, entrepreneurship development, lasting peace and sustainability, ”Diwakar added.
In Bangladesh, the international organization is working with Global Law Thinker Society Bangladesh engaging youths from diversified communities for creating positive social changes and professional empowerment.
Bangladeshi young law practitioner Raoman Smita leads the GYP country chapter. She organizes youths to raise their voice for policy reform, particularly working to raise environmental awareness, build youth capacity and nurture the next generation of leaders for socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable development of Bangladesh.
Diwakar further mentioned that the foundation of building strong bridge with our Bangladeshi counterparts was encapsulated within the framework of our partner organization the Global Youth Leadership Summit held in Katmandu earlier this year.
“As you know, along with its signature youth leadership development programs Global Youth Parliament is an initiative established to groom and nurture young people with much needed knowledge and skills to interfere in the policy making spheres of their respective societies around the globe,” Diwakar added. .
Diwakar mentioned that Bangladesh was a valuable experience for him and for GYP as they are fortunate to have Bangladesh as our priority country to collaborate within the structure of GYP’s mission.
“I believe this summit enabled youths to excel not only in their academic and professional life but also will prepare them to lead, inspire and other young people around them in the future, Diwakar commented on Dhaka summit.
The two day summit provided young participants with an exceptional opportunity to learn about youth leadership, climate change, democracy, peace and sustainable living. Young people enthusiastically participated to grasp the most out of the summit.
Diwakar emphasized on empowerment of youth to build skills and opportunities through the use of traditional and internet media.
“With the unprecedented rise in the use of internet among youths in recent years we are exploring creative ways to use internet media for positive social change,”
GYP provides that common platform for youths where they are trained and empowered to participate in leadership roles, increasing their ability in governance and accountability for youth-friendly policies.
